Frequently Asked Questions
What does the scholarship cover?
The scholarship is designed to cover the amount of remaining tuition and related fees, such as books (up to $500 per semester) and on-campus housing, after a student has applied to all available grants and scholarships. This is to ensure that students are not indebted due to their studies.
Which schools are covered by the scholarship?
Public community/junior, state, technical colleges (formerly known as vocational tech schools), and universities in Florida. There is an exception for Rollins College which is limited to three scholars each year.
What is the required grade point average for college admissions?
This depends. State, community, and junior colleges have open admissions which require a regular high school diploma. You need a 2.0 grade point average to graduate high school.
How many years will the scholarship cover?
Four years of undergraduate studies total. This may be four at a university or two years at a community college plus two years at a university. Summer school may be covered if you’re enrolled at a local community college during the first summer after high school graduation – with the approval of the criteria committee.
What happens if my parent(s)/legal guardian(s) move out of Tangelo Park or Parramore?
Parent(s)/legal guardian(s) and/or you, if you’re living at home while going to school, are required to keep your scholarship coordinator updated on where you live. The scholarship will be terminated if you move out of Tangelo Park or Parramore. You must live in these neighborhoods to receive the scholarship and for the whole time you’re receiving the scholarship. This is why we need proof of where you live each year.
What happens if I receive the scholarship (monies paid), and it is discovered that me and my parent(s)/legal guardian(s) are not true residents of either neighborhood?
This program was put into these specific neighborhoods to provide students like you an opportunity to get a post-secondary education at no cost. If you and your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) provide false information to receive scholarship dollars, like saying you live in Tangelo Park or Parramore when you don’t, you all will be subject to penalties and repayment required by law. If it is found out that even if you were eligible but knowingly permitted this to happen, you may be subject to losing whatever is left of your scholarship. We sincerely hope that everyone will help to maintain the integrity of the scholarship provided by the Rosen Scholar Program.
